Dads and Doulas

During your birth my role as your doula is different than the role of your baby's father. I am there to provide you both with comfort, knowledge, and support. I recognize the important role of a father's presence during birth and the intense soul connections that birth will bring to you. As your doula, I feel that there is only one team, and that is team you. I will be on the same team as your baby's father and anyone else who you may choose to have present during the birthing process.

There are times when birth may be confusing and intense for new fathers. It can feel like sitting down to play a song without knowing how to read music. I will be there to help to guide your baby's father through any procedures, answer questions, and give him more ideas about how he can comfort you. If he needs to rest or take a break I will remain with you while he does so. He can view me as your friendly birth guide. At times I may encourage him to physically support you if you would like this as well. I feel that good and present births not only create strong mothers but they they also create strong families, solidifying your connections to one another, and leading to a more harmonious family unit. The birth of a baby is also the birth of a new mother, and a new father. My goal is to help you to achieve the best possible start that you can.

La Matrona views childbirth holistically. I was trained in many areas, including the holistic stages of labor, different presentations, anatomy, interventions, and techniques that may be used during labor to help you. As well as being trained in birth professionally I also have birthed two children of my own, and I have personal knowledge of what birth feels like emotionally and physically. I recognize birth as a transformative process for you, your child's father, and your whole family. Therefore, I welcome all who are there in support of you and enjoy their presence.
