What is an Antepartum Doula?

As an antepartum doula I provide a variety of doula services to mothers who are receiving special care in pregnancy. If a special care mother were to need bed rest I would be there to help care for her by attending to every day tasks that she might not be able to do. This may be preparing meals for her while on bed rest, helping her care for other children, errands, and appointments. In 2001 in Europe, my pregnancy required special care and a surgical cerclage. To the right is a photo of my husband holding my first son in the NICU. He was 4 1/2 lbs and born with a genetic condition that affected his muscle tone and development. It was then that I noticed there is not much support for women on bed rest emotionally or physically. Freeing mothers who are facing difficult or high risk pregnancies can help to reduce their stress. I can also provide emotional support for women who are going through premature labor and delivery. I travel to the fallowing areas to serve my clients; Yel, Fort Lewis, Tacoma, and Olympia.

Having been there myself I recognize the great need for more antepartum doulas who are willing to fill in the gaps when there is a hard situation at hand. As all of my other doula services I approach the antepartum service from a holistic point of view as well, and I am here to nurture you.

As your antepartum doula I can provide you with support and resources before during and after your birth. We can also discuss the different aspects of your birth together and we can identify your strengths. I am very honored to be able to offer this service and I strongly believe that it is important to mother the mother. This is a special service that is very close to my heart. I want to help you to keep positive and upbeat about your pregnancy and birth. My main focus will be the nurturing of you during this time and providing you with calm reassurance.
